made in Camden:
Made in Camden, a brand new bar and dining room, has opened. As unpretentious, informal and vibrant as the local area, Made in Camden will be open throughout the day and into the night. As well as lunch and dinner, Made in Camden will offer a great range of beers and wines for those who want to wind down after a Roundhouse show. Open 363 days per year, Made in Camden has been created with locals as much as audiences in mind.
Situated at the front of the Roundhouse but with its own dedicated entrance, the arresting new interior echoes the existing light-industrial style of the Grade II listed performing arts venue with its use of commanding steel pillars, natural wood, and both zinc and granite bar tops. The sensitively designed building strikes an intelligent balance between the contemporary and the historical, combining original features with modern urban design to enhance space. Floor to ceiling windows looking out on to Chalk Farm Road flood the room with light.
Made in Camden relied heavily on local talent to come into being. Designer Michael Sodeau and Head Chef Josh Katz grew up in the area. The bar is the only local stockist of all of Camden Town Brewery’s beers while nearby Bibendum supplies the wines.
Made in Camden’s menu, drinks and wine list has been devised to match the diversity and high quality of the work that appears on the Roundhouse stage. Well-versed in classic refined French cuisine and earthy Mediterranean styles, Head Chef Josh Katz has created a menu with which echoes these passions.
The lunch menu sees an Iranian open omelette, leeks, walnuts, sultanas and rocket salad (£9.50 sit alongside a butternut squash risotto, pumpkin seed, chorizo, mascarpone (£9.90). Dinner is different. From 6 to 10 pm, Josh offers his customers a choice of tasting plates, recommending 2- 4 plates per person depending on their appetite. Wild mushrooms, poached egg, pea shoots (£7.90) feature, Crisp pork belly, pickled cabbage, apple puree, poached quince (£9.90) too. Sandwiched between lunch and dinner and rounding off the evening is a menu of house-made bar snacks.
A big brunch fan, Josh offers customers a diverse menu which will appeal to porridge, pancake and pumpkin lovers alike. Cakes and pastries will be served morning and afternoon whilst great coffee from Caravan will be served no matter what the hour.
All profits from this neighbourhood restaurant will be fed back into The Roundhouse Trust, supporting its artistic activities and work with 11-25s. |
