About Blue | Glas at the Sherman Theatre
National Dance Company Wales performs Blue | Glas at the Sherman Theatre in Cardiff on 17 and 18 September 2026 — homecoming shows for the country’s national dance company, which is based in the city.
The double bill opens with Ordinary Courage, created by Theo Clinkard in 2012 and remade this year for NDCWales. It is a sincere and quietly moving reflection on grief, loss and the strength we find in one another, set to a haunting score that weaves together Scarlatti and Bach. The second half is Untamed, a visceral new work by Alesanda Seutin, a 2026 Olivier Award nominee and Sadler’s Wells Associate Artist, rooted in the human urge to run.
What to Expect
Untamed is athletic and commanding: dancers charged with emotion coil like springs ready to release, driven by a soundtrack that includes traditional Welsh instruments and ancestral voices. Placed beside the tenderness of Ordinary Courage, it makes an evening that moves from reflection to release — warm, deeply moving and cathartic by the final curtain.
Performances start at 19:30 and run to around 22:00, with an interval. With two nights at the Sherman, Cardiff audiences have a proper chance to see the company on its home turf before it tours on.
As the national company’s base, Cardiff tends to get new work early and often, and the Sherman’s intimacy suits a programme that moves between quiet reflection and full-throttle movement.
