Wynne Evans and BBC NOW – 100 years of Radio Broadcasting in Wales

Celebrate 100 years since the first radio broadcast in Wales with Wynne Evans and BBC NOW

In February 1923, the very first BBC Wales radio broadcast was made from a tiny studio above a shop in Castle Street, Cardiff.

Mostyn Thomas, a well-known Welsh operatic baritone at the time, stepped forward and sang into the microphones dangling from the ceiling – his rendition of Dafydd y Garreg Wen marking the first Welsh words ever heard on British radio.

Scroll forward a century, and you can join Wynne Evans, Kizzy Crawford, Samantha Price and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales to celebrate this piece of broadcasting history.

Featuring a selection of nostalgic Welsh music to warm the heart, join us at BBC Hoddinott Hall on Sunday 5 February, 3pm, for this exciting concert marking this momentous occasion in Wales.

Tickets £10 (£5 for students and under 26’s)
