Echoes Of History

Family event featuring Living History through the ages an awesome display of historic military vehicles, displays, arena events, collectors and craft stalls, fair, live entertainment and more!

The amazing Essex HMVA: Echoes of History show on 13th and 14th August 10am to 5pm at Whitehouse Farm Living Memorial Gardens, Rettendon, Essex. The Gardens contain several memorials dedicated to servicemen who have served or still serving.

For this year’s show we have military vehicles across all eras – from push bikes to massive trucks that make the tanks look small! With awesome vehicle parades in addition to the re-enactments, we also have a fantastic line up of other events.

** A recent addition is the BBMF Spitfire fly past on the Sunday!**

An amazing turn out of living history display groups will be depicting life from many periods and nationalities. These historical re-enactors go to enormous lengths to represent the subjects they portray as accurately and authentically as possible and are always happy to answer your questions or demonstrate equipment so don’t be afraid to ask! This provides visitors with a rare opportunity to see how the soldiers of different nationalities and time periods lived and to get close to the equipment and atmosphere of the time.

Arena activities will be taking place throughout the day, with parades where you can see these historic vehicles in motion, allowing you to get close to a military convoy, and armoured vehicles as well as see and hear them roaring around the arena and learn a little about their history. As always, there will be our re-enactment displays and demonstrations – and don’t forget to join in the kids marching drill. For many the highlight is the multi period battle where reenactors from different periods and outfits conduct a light hearted “battle” with everything from frying pans to water pistols!!

There’s so much more for the kids to get involved in, as well as all the stuff to watch, see and explore, there’s also the vintage fair, Jive dancing, live music, family and collectors’ stalls and many other activities. What better way is there for the younger generation to learn about our history than to hear about it from those who made it – our wonderful veterans that are always happy to tell their own story. Back by popular demand will be our wonderful live ‘wartime’ entertainment in our marquee, including music and free Jive dance lessons!.

Where else would you be able to get up close and personal to your past!
