MAD-Aid was founded ten years ago by Victoria Dunford, CEO, who noticed the amount of hospital equipment being disposed of in UK hospitals.
She started repurposing it and sending it to hospitals in Moldova, Europe’s poorest country, which desperately needed it.
Fast-forward ten years and MAD-Aid has recycled and transported tonnes of aid, built the Phoenix Centre, a day care facility for children with disabilities in Moldova, and created a care home and a hydrotherapy pool.
When the Ukrainian crisis started earlier this year, MAD-Aid channelled the logistical experience of the past decade to help the people in Ukraine and the refugees fleeing to Moldova and the UK.
So far 20 articulated lorries of aid including hygiene products, beds, blankets, coats, tents, etc have been sent to Ukraine and Moldova – and 13 of those were from the Isle of Wight.
This party will help MAD-Aid raise much-needed funds to continue its ongoing support in response to the Ukraine crisis.
The charity is helping refugees on the Isle of Wight and in Moldova, as well as affected areas in Ukraine directly.
