Our “Northern Lights” programme takes us to Scandinavia featuring works by Jean Sibelius, Einojuhani Rautavaara and Carl Nielsen.
Sibelius’ Symphony No. 1 probably needs no introduction but we are delighted to be performing less well-known works. Nielsen’s Helios Overture represents the sun rising out of the darkness before sinking below the horizon where the sky meets the sea.
Cantus Arcticus by Rautavaara is an exciting “Concerto for Birds and Orchestra” featuring recordings of birdsong blending with the live orchestra.
