Join us for the latest iteration of Apex Zero’s Drummer Warrior Storyteller, live in the stunning EartH Theatre, Hackney. An incredible lineup of musicians, dancers, poets, visual and sonic artists will manifest Drummer Warrior Storyteller in its latest powerful form as a Hip Hop Dance Theatre production and visual/sonic exhibition.
Drummer Warrior Storyteller is a living album by multidisciplinary artist Apex Zero. With many brilliant collaborators with expertise in a diverse mix of mediums and fields, the album embodies Nigerian author Chinua Achebe’s perception of storytelling; the Drummer calls the people, the Warrior fights the war, the Storyteller recounts the events, creating history, forming memory and giving meaning to the survival of those who endure.
Building on a wide range of inspiration, most prominently Audre Lorde’s writing and Alexander G. Weheliye’s Habeas Viscus, Drummer Warrior Storyteller centres African Caribbean perspectives, exploring experiences of oppression & liberation of diasporic, migrant and marginalised people in London and beyond. Pushing the boundaries of what a music album is and can be, Drummer Warrior Storyteller fuses music with film, dance, photography, metalwork, painting & more to produce powerful experiences and spark important discussions.
With the films and music of Parts One & Two released in 2022 and 2023, this event at EartH marks the first steps towards Drummer Warrior Storyteller (Part 3). With new collaborators on board, the album’s community continues to expand in scale and scope, breathing more dynamism into the project’s ever evolving life force.
