Dropped exposes the brutal life of a Premier League youth player. The one-man play written and performed by Chelsea FC trainee Alfie Cain puts you right into the dressing room of football’s biggest clubs and reveals the callous way they treat the youth players who have been with them throughout their childhood.
This searing indictment of the British football system shows the complete disregard for the young men in the elite academies that help train the soccer stars of the future. The vast majority are thrown onto the scrapheap of life, when they are no longer of use.
The no-holds barred play lays bare the shocking level of mental and even sexual abuse of young boys. It takes you on a footballer’s journey from age nine to 18 and shows how young men are left completely alone to deal with the suffocating feelings of failure and despair after they’ve been dropped.
The play is directed by Rita Bernard Shaw.
