Good Cop, Bad Cop: What To Do When the Police are the Criminals (17 May, Conway Hall)

The Met Police contains a culture of misogyny, prejudice and callousness. With Parm Sandhu and Tom Gash, we ask how law enforcement can be more ethical and for everyone.

How can our police protect and serve us considering the criminal behaviour of some Met officers and the continued culture of misogyny, prejudice and callousness within the police? We ask how law enforcement can be ethical and for everyone. Do we defend or defund the police?

Join us at Conway Hall with ex-police officer and author Parm Sandhu and crime, security and justice specialist Tom Gash. We will ask how policing can be for all the people, including women, people of colour, LGBTQ+, protestors and others who are not always covered by the protection of the police. This includes fellow police officers of colour.

Parm Sandhu joined the police in 1989 and rose through the ranks to become the highest ranking female Asian officer in the Metropolitan Police Service. Among many honours, Parm has been awarded the Public Sector Award at the Asian Women of Achievements Awards. She is the co-author of Black and Blue: One woman’s story of policing and prejudice (Atlantic Books, 2023). In Black and Blue Parm tells her shocking story and of her quest for justice in her police work and for herself. It is a story that cannot fail to inspire anyone who has experienced prejudice or abuse of any kind.

Tom Gash is the Managing Director of Leapwise, who help public service leaders make the wise decisions. Tom’s sector specialism is crime, security and justice and he operates across Leapwise service areas. He is the author of Times ‘Thought’ Book of the Year Criminal: The Truth About Why People Do Bad Things (Penguin, 2016), an in-demand international speaker on both criminal and organisational decision-making, and a regular media commentator (BBC, Sky, ABC, Fox) and government Select Committee expert witness.
