Jools Holland is a household name, as a pianist, bandleader, composer and television presenter. He was an original member of the band Squeeze and has worked with many artists including Tom Jones, Sting, Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, George Harrison, Ringo Starr and Bono.

Jools released his most recent album “Pianola. PIANO and FRIENDS” in November 2021 on Warner Music. Produced by Nitin Sawhney, Laurie Latham and with one track co-written and produced by Mousse T., the album is a loving tribute to the black and white keys that have become synonymous with Jools and his show-stopping style. To showcase the true versatility and virtuosity of the piano, Jools invited many of his friends to join in from different corners of the world, from musical legends and jazz greats to the next generation’s stars,: Lang Lang, David Gilmour, Tom Jones, Ruby Turner, Herbie Hancock, Booker T. Jones, Gregory Porter, Mousse T., YolanDa Brown, Dr. John, Joe Bonamassa, Trombone Shorty to name a few.

Singers from London Contemporary Voices choir also featured on the album; the choir having previously worked with the album’s producer Nitin Sawhney and having appeared on BBC2’s Later…with Jools Holland back in 2012, alongside band Alt-J. The choir joins Jools again tonight for this special one-off show at St James’s.

Jools Holland’s career as a television presenter has run parallel to his musical career. From 1982 until 1987, he co-presented the Channel 4 music programme The Tube. Since 1992, he has hosted Later… with Jools Holland, a music-based show aired on BBC2, on which his annual show Hootenanny is based.

He received an OBE in 2003 for services to the British music industry as a television presenter and musician.

Opening tonight’s show is support act Luca Manning. Alt-jazz rising star Luca Manning is an artist who questions rigidity. Shaped initially by the buzzing Glasgow music and arts scene, Luca now finds their heart stolen by all that East London has to offer. Luca aims to cultivate a space where we are allowed to feel; a world where we are free to connect and express, and to exist beyond the binary and the beige of the everyday. A singer, a songwriter, teacher, podcaster, writer, poet and performer, Luca is currently artist in residence at the iconic Roundhouse. Their music speaks in tones that are tender, evocative, often ethereal and draws on the sound worlds from artists such as Perfume Genius, Moses Sumney, Anohni, Bjork + Beverley Glenn Copeland.
