Joseph Tawadros: live in London

Composer and oud virtuoso Joseph Tawadros performs a selection of his own compositions, blending the Arabic modal system with classical, jazz, folk, and more.

Cairo-born, 8-time ARIA-award winner Joseph Tawadros is one of the world’s masters of his chosen instrument, the oud – an Arabic lute-type fretless stringed instrument, the ancestor of the Western lute and modern guitar.

A virtuoso of diversity and sensitivity, Joseph performs in concert halls worldwide and is known for his brilliant technique, deep musicianship, storytelling and joyous style of performance. For this rare solo performance in the UK, Joseph will present an exciting programme of original music. His compositions draw inspiration from the Arabic modal system (maqam) and blend it seamlessly with elements of Western classical, jazz, world, folk, and even metal and bluegrass.

Ranging from thrilling, furiously paced numbers to beautifully introspective and tranquil pieces, the program is woven together by Joseph’s trademark lyricism and the striking contemporary musicality of his oud.
