National Dance Company Wales present Blue | Glas

Let NDCWales hold your hand through a desperately beautiful evening of dance.

About Blue | Glas at The Hafren

National Dance Company Wales brings Blue | Glas to The Hafren in Newtown on 2 October 2026. The double bill is a chance for audiences in Mid Wales to see the country’s national dance company up close, in a programme built around courage, loss and the human instinct to keep moving.

It opens with Ordinary Courage, created by Theo Clinkard in 2012 and remade this year for NDCWales. A sincere reflection on grief and the quiet strength of human connection, it is set to a haunting score that blends Scarlatti and Bach. The second half, Untamed, is a visceral new work by Alesanda Seutin — a 2026 Olivier Award nominee and Sadler’s Wells Associate Artist — rooted in the urge to run.

What to Expect

Untamed is athletic, commanding and full of charge: dancers coil like springs ready to release, driven by a soundtrack that folds in traditional Welsh instruments and ancestral voices. Placed next to the tenderness of Ordinary Courage, it makes for an evening that swings between warmth and electricity, and that lands as deeply cathartic by the end.

The show starts at 19:30 and runs to around 22:00 with an interval, so plan for a full evening. Whether you are a regular at the theatre or new to contemporary dance, the programme is built to be followed easily — two clear works, no interval lecture required.

Mid Wales audiences see the national company relatively rarely, so this is a date worth planning around. The Hafren’s auditorium offers clear sightlines from most seats, and with a single evening on the schedule it is worth booking before the autumn listings fill up.
