Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra returns with a new twist on its longstanding tradition of celebrating the New Year.
This year’s sparkling concert music by the King of Waltz is spiced up with a sprinkling of Hungarian flavour as the waltzes, marches and polkas of Johann Strauss and family are cleverly juxtaposed with the Hungarian Dances and Rhapsodies of Brahms and Liszt. Rising young maestro Gergely Madaras studied composition in Budapest and conducting in Vienna. So who better as conductor and informative guide for this musical tour of both capital cities.
The Orchestra is also joined by famous Hungarians Jenő Lisztes on cimbalom and violinist Lajos Sárközy Jr.
Music includes the Fledermaus Overture, Thunder and Lightning Polka, Cuckoo Polka, Gold and Silver Waltz and, of course, The Blue Danube!
The concert is also performed at Weymouth Pavilion on Friday 6 January. Visit the BSO website for more information.
