This is a rare opportunity for Chester to hear a live performance of Schubert’s song cycle Wintereisse – Winter’s Journey. This is a set of 24 songs that describe a lonely person who has lost his true love and ventures out in the snow to get a way from it all. So he experiences quite a bit of despair. Sadly it was written after Schubert’s debauched life had led him close to death. But the songs are wonderful in a very descriptive way!!
The songs are to be sung by the renowned Shropshire baritone Peter Edge and accompanied on the piano by Chester’s own famous recitalist John Gough.
